EBATINCA drives geospatial innovation in the Canary Islands with the STARTS 2024 project
During the development of the STARTS 2024 program, focused on creating innovative projects in the Canary Islands, EBATINCA is advancing in the development of specialized applications in the geospatial sector.
One of the main objectives of this project is the creation of advanced tools for satellite image processing, with a key use case: automated land classification. This technology will enable the identification of elements such as roads and buildings from raw satellite images. With this, EBATINCA provides an efficient and automated solution for companies interested in detecting and categorizing different types of terrain.

To carry out this project, a custom extension was developed for widely used and flexible geospatial tools like QGIS. This allows companies in the sector to easily access advanced functionalities for geospatial image analysis. The prediction is generated by a ResNet model, an advanced convolutional neural network (CNN) architecture. ResNet (Residual Networks) are known for learning more complex representations and improving performance in image classification tasks.
The newly developed module enables processing both a set of images and an individual image selected by the user. This allows for analysis of all images in a project, automatically filtering those with a suitable raster format for processing. Alternatively, users can select a specific image from the file explorer to obtain individual predictions. Once results are generated, they can be viewed in the results tab, where predictions can be reviewed and previewed in JSON format, facilitating export to standard formats such as JSON and CSV.

With this project, EBATINCA reaffirms its commitment to innovation and the development of advanced technological solutions. The integration of this extension represents a key step toward the automation and optimization of processes for companies and industries, both in the Canary Islands and globally.
