EBATINCA secures RIS3 2025 grant to transform radiotherapy training
We are pleased to announce that EBATINCA has been selected as a beneficiary of the expanded RIS3 grant call, co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Government of the Canary Islands. This funding will support an innovative project set to revolutionize radiotherapy training through advanced technologies.
The project aims to develop an “R&D and training platform for Photon and Proton Radiotherapy, based on Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, and Cloud Computing,” moving product named StaRT from a proof of concept validated in laboratory settings (TRL 3-4) to validation in a relevant environment (TRL 6-7).

StaRT will provide healthcare professionals with a realistic, safe, and accessible training and research solution, enabling the planning and simulation of radiotherapy treatments without relying on expensive clinical equipment. Currently, radiotherapy specialists must train directly in hospital environments, facing limited equipment availability, high technological complexity, and a lack of accessible tools for advanced practice. This particularly affects radiotherapy and dosimetry technicians, who have few training alternatives beyond direct observation of experienced professionals. StaRT addresses this urgent need by democratizing access to specialized training through a tool that simulates real clinical scenarios and allows testing of new techniques without compromising hospital resource availability. The system will also benefit researchers by enabling evaluation of algorithms and new treatment plans outside the constraints of traditional clinical software, thus expanding innovation potential in radiotherapy oncology.
